STATES GENERAL OF WATER IN TOULOUSE: Success, December 8

At the initiative of the Association Water Rescue-31, the States-General of the Water of the Great South West (Aquitaine, Languedoc-Roussillon, Midi-Pyrenees) have attracted nearly forty associations of water committees and Attac Collective defense services unit public. Associations from other regions have joined or expressed their support to this day: Quimper, ACME, Water Rescue Ile de France, ATTAC-national, national defense Convergence of public service.

The goal of the day was the adoption of a platform to challenge political parties and candidates during elections municipales.Ceci so they are in favor of the return or retention of regulated services of the water and sanitation and the implementation of a policy promoting democratic control of the population on the management of these services.

The platform contains further requirements on water quality and resource conservation. Local media have widely reported on the journée.Au national level, the objective is that the associations sign up to the platform and use it in the municipal campaign. If this is the case, a national initiative will be undertaken by March 2008. As for the Great Southwest, a new meeting will take place within a year to take stock of the campaign and discuss other issues related to water.
